26 Years at the Heart of Art

Founded in 2000 by actor, playwright and director Halil İzmirli under the name Tiyatro Arkadaş Gösteri Sanatları, the company operated in Balçova until 2007. That year, it converted a three-story former Greek house in Küçükyalı into a theater and, under the name Tiyatro Arkadaş Gösteri Sanatları Merkezi, hosted countless plays and events. Forced to close its curtain between 2018 and 2020, and later affected by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the company rehearsed in several different locations until 2024 and presented its plays to audiences at prominent cultural centers across İzmir. In 2024, the theater underwent restructuring, formed a board of directors and opened a 120-seat venue called Pier Sahne at Konak Pier Shopping Center. In the second half of 2025, the company decided to leave the shopping center and establish a more independent stage. A former carpet warehouse in a stone building in Konak Kemeraltı Bazaar was therefore restored and converted into a theater. Pier Sahne thus moved to its current 70-seat venue.

Over its 26-year journey, Pier Sahne has staged hundreds of plays, trained thousands of actors and contributed many new works to the theatrical repertoire. Having made significant contributions to theater in the past, Pier Sahne will continue to bring contemporary, innovative and meaningful works to audiences in the future.
